Abstract

This study aims to review and synthesize previous research findings on the biomechanical characteristics of the Countermovement Jump (CMJ) and Squat Jump (SJ) as methods for measuring vertical jump performance. This study employed a literature review approach by examining scientific articles retrieved from the Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, and Google Scholar databases. The selected literature met the inclusion criteria of discussing the biomechanics of CMJ and SJ, biomechanical variables related to vertical jump performance, and being published in reputable scientific journals. The collected data were analyzed using a content analysis approach and synthesized narratively to provide a comprehensive overview of the existing evidence. The review findings indicate that the Countermovement Jump generally produces greater jump performance than the Squat Jump due to its utilization of the stretch-shortening cycle (SSC), which enhances force production and explosive power. In contrast, the Squat Jump primarily reflects pure concentric muscle contraction, making it an effective assessment for evaluating lower-limb explosive strength without the influence of elastic energy storage. The biomechanical analysis of both jump tests includes several key parameters, such as ground reaction force, peak power, impulse, rate of force development (RFD), take-off velocity, and movement coordination. Furthermore, advances in biomechanical assessment technologies, including force plates, motion capture systems, and inertial measurement units (IMUs), have substantially improved measurement accuracy and contributed to athlete performance evaluation, neuromuscular fatigue monitoring, and evidence-based training program development. In conclusion, the Countermovement Jump and Squat Jump are valid, reliable, and complementary methods for assessing vertical jump performance in biomechanical analyses. The combined use of both tests provides a more comprehensive evaluation of muscular strength, explosive power, stretch-shortening cycle efficiency, and neuromuscular function. Therefore, both assessment methods are recommended as valuable tools for biomechanical research, athletic performance evaluation, training adaptation monitoring, and injury rehabilitation. Analisis biomekanika kedua metode meliputi berbagai parameter, seperti ground reaction force, peak power, impuls, rate of force development, take-off velocity, dan koordinasi gerak.
