Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

 

Author Guidelines

  1. JALL (Journal of Applied Linguistics and Literacy) accepts research-based articles that have not been published or are under consideration elsewhere.
  2. To be considered for publication, manuscripts should be typed in English in 1.5 space, using MS Word doc. format, 12 size Times New Roman fonts, maximum 20 pages in length, top and left margin 3 cm, bottom and right margin 2.54 cm, printed in A4.
  3. Do not write the author’s name in any part of the article (JALL has already applied for double-blind review in the review process).
  4. Articles will be reviewed by subject reviewers, while the editors reserve the right to edit articles for format consistency without altering the substance.
  5. Articles are to be written in essay style with a subheading for each part. The subheading system is as follows:

    LEVEL ONE: ALL CAPITALS, BOLD, LEFT JUSTIFICATION
    Level Two: Capitals-lowercase, Bold, Left Justification (If Any)
    Level Three: Capitals-lowercase, Italic-bold, Left Justification (If Any)

  6. Articles should contain: (a) Title; (b) Abstract (max. 250 words); (c) Keywords (two to five keywords); (d) Introduction which includes review of related literature and research purpose; (e) Method; (f) Findings and Discussion; (g) Conclusion; (h) References; and (i) Appendix (if any).
  7. The title should be less than 12 words, capitalized, and centered.
  8. The abstract must contain the importance of the topic, objectives of the present study, method, findings, conclusion, and recommendation. The abstract is typed in a single space.
  9. The introduction must consist of the background of the study, research contexts, literature review, and research objectives. It should be presented in the forms of paragraphs, not pointers, with the proportion of 15-20% of the whole article length.
  10. The method section should consist of description concerning the research design, data sources, data collection, participants (if any), and data analysis with the proportion of  10-15% of the total article length, all presented in the form of paragraphs.
  11. The findings and discussion section must consist of a description of the results of the data analysis to answer the research question(s) and their meanings are seen from current theories and references of the area addressed. The proportion of this section is 40-60% of the total article length.
  12. The conclusion section must consist of the summary, restatement of the main findings, and recommendations for further research.
  13. Use only horizontal lines when using tables. Put the table number and the title of the table on top of it.
  14. Every source cited in the body of the article should appear in the reference, and all sources appearing in the reference should be cited in the body of the article.
  15. The sources cited should at least 70% come from those published in the last 10 years. The sources cited are primary sources in the forms of journal articles, books, and research reports, including theses and dissertations. Citations from the journal should be at least 80% of the total references cited.
  16. The references should be presented alphabetically and chronologically, and be written in accordance with the APA style.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Authors who publish with JALL (Journal of Applied Linguistics and Literacy) agree to the following terms:

  1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgment of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
  2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgment of its initial publication in this journal.
  3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).

Author Fees

This journal charges the following author fees.

Article Submission: 0.00 (USD)
JALL does not charge any processing fees for every articles submitted.

Article Publication: 50.00 (USD)
If the paper is accepted for publication, you will be asked to pay an Article Publication Fee to cover publication costs 50 USD/800.000 IDR

If you do not have funds to pay such fees, you will have an opportunity to waive each fee. We do not want fees to prevent the publication of worthy work.
