Kerukunan sebagai Modal Sosial dan Ketahanan Multikultural: Studi Kasus Masyarakat Mbawa, Bima

Abstract

Interfaith harmony in Mbawa Village, Bima Regency, has been widely described, yet how this community remembers and recovers from past tensions has received little attention. This study aims to analyse Mbawa’s harmony as social capital and multicultural resilience and to draw its implications for history education. It employed a qualitative case study guided by oral history principles. Data were collected through a harmony dialogue involving 65 participants, in-depth interviews with key informants from three religions and the younger generation, and document tracing, and were analysed thematically and triangulated. The findings show that the kinship bonds of kasama weki and sabua weki and the ndoi/parafu philosophy operate as social capital that is simultaneously bonding and bridging, because family lines cut across religious boundaries. The 1969 tension, which began as a minor dispute and escalated into church burnings, was resolved in layers through government and religious-institution intervention, the role of women, and kinship-based relational recovery and deliberation. This resilience is vulnerable to the intergenerational hollowing of traditional meanings. In conclusion, Mbawa’s harmony is the outcome of continuously maintained social work rather than a natural condition. The findings are translated into a source-based local history learning design that still requires testing.
