Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of deep learning in history education, analyze the potential of Banten cultural heritage as learning resources, and formulate a contextual and reflective history learning design. This study employs a qualitative approach with a literature review method through the analysis of scholarly works, regulations, and official sources related to deep learning, history education, local history, cultural heritage, and heritage literacy. The findings indicate that deep learning in history education can be operationalized through conceptual understanding, source inquiry, evidence interpretation, value reflection, collaboration, and the application of knowledge in real-life contexts. Banten cultural heritage sites, such as Keraton Surosowan, the Great Mosque of Banten Lama, Karangantu Harbor, Speelwijk Fortress, Situ Tasikardi, and the Banten Lama area, have strong potential as learning resources for understanding sultanate power, Islamization, maritime trade, colonialism, water technology, multiculturality, and heritage preservation. The learning design is formulated through problem orientation, source exploration, historical interpretation, collaborative projects, value reflection, and publication of student work. History learning based on deep learning through Banten cultural heritage strengthens historical thinking, local identity, heritage literacy, and students’ responsibility for preservation.
